The making
Colophon.
Here is how this site is made.
Type
Headlines are set in Besley, a Clarendon — the letterform of nineteenth-century tool catalogs — held to its Medium weight so the wordmark stays the only heavy letter on any page. Text is Newsreader, drawn for quiet, long reading. The job-ticket labels are Fragment Mono. All three are open type under the SIL Open Font License, served from this site and nowhere else.
The seal
The vermilion oval is the counter of the O in our wordmark, pressed once at the foot of every page. A maker’s mark: it means a person here judged the work finished.
The wordmark was drawn by Shadow’s Pixels, Dostylo’s studio for graphic design and art.
The press
The site is static, built with Astro and served from Google Cloud. The paper grain, the window light, and the press of the seal are a few kilobytes of plain code. One small service delivers inquiries to our inbox; nothing else runs.
